1 : 15.06.2007 : R.I.P. [ ACS ]

After bravely fighting a cruel disease,
ACS passed on to the heavenly platform
and switched his software into the eternal
mode.

Hardware pioneer, renown board operator,
dear friend and contact for over 20 years,
the scene already seems to be a darker place.

If I only manage to live like half of his
heart and character, I will be a better man.

I miss you, ACS, may the old school memories
be with you in your final installation.

When God encounters a machine failure, now
he has our best at his side, the legendary
hardware wizard who fixed everything.
And so much more. Rest in Peace, ACS.

2 : 2.06.2007 : Please, please. Wait a minute Mister Postman...

Ultra fast network-connections to backbones are fly.
Everything goes in seconds. But, I personally think,
there was a more stylish way to get the word out to the
scene:

A long time ago, the express postman rang the bell at
seven a.m. in the morning, way before I had to leave for
school. He handed me an envelope with nice foreign stamps,
a handwritten letter with little drawings, a sticker for
advertising purposes and usually something funny in
addition, like a beer brand logo, taken from a bottle of
which I had never heard before.

Personalized letters always had the charm of originality
and specific character, to the contrary of the current
slick data transferring, which basically has no personality
in itself.
Okay, I admit, the waiting sucked big time... but on the
other hand, the express postman rang the sweetest bell I
ever woke up to!

3 : 20.05.2007 : Culture Break Beat

While today getting pouetized is the trade of the day, I
still remember the good old CeBit bashing habbit, having an
instant scene party between the Commodore and Robotron
trade fair stand on location.

Everything you needed for a good promotion or a debate in
scene politics was there: Crowds of freaks, dozens of feds,
a heap of photographers, undercovers and the poor
Commodore workforce, which kept asking itfelf, what was
going on around them.

And the best thing: Realtime feedback for unpolite
comments and mean critiques. No need for thumbs, just a
look in the eye...

4 : 13.05.2007 : TCP / IP anyone?

I remember the day in the late 70's, when my father took
me to one of his laboratories and sat me in front of a VAX
VT-100 Terminal from Digital Equipment. He said: "Look, we
have two new toys in the box. One is called ARPA-net, the
other is known as MIL-net. Check it out, before the rest of
the world does. You will here from this stuff, when it goes
public..."

I thought a moment about what I had seen, when we finished
our research session in the academic libraries of the early
topography. Did the world become smaller or even larger at
that very day?
Today, I still can't decide, what's it gonna be, but my
father was right. We all heard a lot about these new toys
in the box, after this day...

5 : 27.04.2007 : Guru Meditation or 6526 Custom Chip

Well, the old school is not dead.

As sort of a living example, I found my home in TRSI,
together with a bunch of great people, who can look back
on a past, when the postman still was your best chance
to get in contact with the then evolving early scene...

We did not ask for it, but since technology became such
a vivid part of our lifes, why not experiment, rather
than be bored and wait, until the digital divide controls
us completely. And fun we had.

I added some random pictures from more recent times to
my member space, just to give you a quick glimpse into
a few of my ideas.

We may be getting older, but we still know how to party!
